A powerful move set to redefine beauty, identity, and purpose, Abena Akuba Appiah, the first Black Miss Grand International and the National Director of Miss Grand Ghana, is opening the doors wide for diaspora beauty queens to come back home, not just to walk the runway, but to walk the path of impact.
From her childhood dream to international triumph, Abena has blazed a trail with grace, grit, and Ghanaian pride. Her journey from a little girl with a vision to becoming a global queen didn’t just end with the crown,it started with it.
“I didn’t want to be just another beauty queen, that makes a difference. And I have,” Abena confidently shared.
Miss Grand Ghana 2025 is more than a beauty pageant, it’s a move to unite the diaspora and empower Ghana’s future. Abena is ushering in a new era where queens of Ghanaian and African heritage from all over the world are invited to return home, represent their roots, and contribute meaningfully to society and the economy.
This platform provides these women a chance to make tangible impacts, from humanitarian work to educational and economic initiatives bringing fresh perspectives and global exposure into local change.
Abena’s own victory broke stereotypes. In an industry that often sidelines diverse beauty, she wore her natural hair, her skin, and her culture proudly and unapologetically, proving that beauty has no single standard.
“I was told I wouldn’t fit in. I was told I wouldn’t win. But I did all by being exactly who I am,” she said.
Her story is now inspiring hundreds of young women to believe that authenticity is their superpower.
What sets Miss Grand Ghana apart is its focus on long-term empowerment. This year, the organization has officially partnered with GetBooty (yes, you read that right!) to provide contestants with training in cybersecurity and data analytics skills that are in global demand.
“It’s not just about the glitz and glam. These girls are walking away with real skills, real jobs, and real opportunities,” Abena added.
Through Miss Grand Ghana, countless young women have found themselves entering rooms they never dreamed of from international stages to corporate boardrooms.
“Each challenge I’ve faced has made me stronger. Not all pageants are the same. Miss Grand is different. We’re about empowerment, peace, and purpose,” she said.
The Miss Grand Ghana 2025 Grand Finale is set to be the event of the year, taking place on August 16th, 6pm at the National Theatre.
