Contrary to widespread claims circulating on social media, Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has not been ordered by any court to pay GH¢229,500 in rent arrears.
Court documents available to the public have debunked the viral reports, describing them as misleading and premature. The District Court 1 at Adenta has not issued any judgment or payment directive against the award-winning artiste.
The matter, which was filed by Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, is still at a preliminary stage. The court has not begun hearing the substantive issues, and no findings have been made against any party. The case has been adjourned to March 3, 2026, when both sides are expected to appear for further proceedings.
Importantly, the GH¢229,500 figure being shared online is not a court-imposed penalty. Instead, it represents an amount being claimed by the plaintiff as alleged outstanding rent up to July 31, 2025. Legal experts stress that a claim does not amount to a judgment and remains subject to proof in court.
Adding another layer to the matter, court records reveal that the Adjiringanor property at the center of the dispute has been under attachment by the Accra High Court since February 2024, due to separate legal proceedings unrelated to Black Sherif or his management. This development predates the current tenancy disagreement and underscores the complex legal status of the property.
Sources have also clarified that the property is not Black Sherif’s personal residence, contrary to reports online. The premises are used as office space and recording studios for the Road Boys Association (RBA) the musician’s creative collective and record label.
With the substantive legal arguments yet to be heard, there has been no determination of liability. For now, the claims remain allegations, and the court is expected to fully adjudicate the matter when hearings commence in March 2026.
Until then, fans and the public are being urged to treat sensational claims on social media with caution, as no court has ordered Black Sherif to pay any rent arrears.
