Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Broda Shaggi has recounted a terrifying experience in which he was hit by a stray bullet while stuck in traffic, revealing how the incident left him unconscious, hospitalised for months and uncertain about his future in the entertainment industry.

The skit maker, whose real name is Samuel Animashaun Perry, opened up about the life-threatening ordeal in a video shared on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. His account offers a glimpse into the painful experience that kept him away from the public eye for several months and forced him to put his career on hold while focusing on his recovery.

According to the comedian, the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, shortly after he and his team had completed a brand activation shoot. They were heading home when they became caught in heavy traffic around the Sango-Ota Bridge area.

What appeared to be an ordinary journey home quickly turned into a frightening medical emergency.

Broda Shaggi Recalls Hearing a Loud Bang Before Losing His Hearing

Recounting the moment he was shot, Broda Shaggi explained that he suddenly heard a loud bang while sitting in traffic. Immediately afterwards, he experienced an unsettling silence, even though he could see people around him speaking.

“I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear anything,” he recalled.

The comedian said he initially struggled to understand what was happening. It was only after he felt pain around his hip that he began to realise the seriousness of the situation and discovered that he had been hit by a stray bullet.

As panic and confusion set in, his condition deteriorated, and he eventually lost consciousness.

Reflecting on those frightening moments, Shaggi said his only concern was staying alive long enough to receive medical attention.

“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. All that was in my mind was just to survive. I prayed till I got to the hospital,” he said.

His account highlights the terrifying uncertainty that can accompany sudden gunshot injuries, particularly when victims have little time to understand what has happened to them.

Comedian Rushed to Two Hospitals for Treatment

Following the incident, Broda Shaggi was rushed to a hospital in Alakuko, Lagos, where medical personnel reportedly attempted to assess his condition.

However, according to the actor, the facility did not have the equipment needed to provide the level of treatment he required. He was subsequently transferred to another medical facility in the GRA area of Ikeja for further care.

“When I got to the first hospital, they tried to check me. They took me to another hospital because they said they didn’t have enough equipment,” he explained.

The transfer marked the beginning of a challenging recovery journey for the entertainer, who said he spent months receiving medical care and struggling to regain his ability to move normally.

For someone whose profession depends heavily on physical expression, movement and constant interaction with an audience, the experience represented a major disruption to both his personal life and professional ambitions.

Shaggi admitted that there were moments when he feared his career might have come to an end.

For an entertainer who has built a strong following through comedy, online skits and acting, an extended absence can bring uncertainty about audience engagement, professional opportunities and the ability to return to the industry at the same level.
