Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew shared his approach to dealing with criticism from fans and the media. The elite athlete, who has been in the spotlight for over a decade, provided valuable insights during his guest lecture on sports psychology, shedding light on his mental resilience and commitment to the game.
Addressing a packed auditorium, Andre Dede Ayew spoke openly about the high level of scrutiny he faces as a top-tier footballer. He emphasized the importance of understanding the source and reason behind the criticism.
“It’s not easy to get certain remarks, certain insults but most importantly, is trying to understand the reason why it’s coming that way or that sense…all depends on where it is coming from,” Ayew explained.
He elaborated on the need for self-analysis and mental toughness, acknowledging that sometimes criticism can be unfair or nonsensical, while at other times, it may hold some truth.
“You have to try and analyze yourself, sometimes it’s unfair, sometimes it doesn’t make sense and sometimes they have a point,” he noted.
Andre Dede Ayew shared his personal mantra for dealing with negativity: endurance and patience. “Sometimes as a personality, you have to swallow things that you know it’s not true…but that’s where your mental toughness comes and you need to be able to endure pain to smile later. That’s my virtue,” he revealed, offering a glimpse into the mindset that has kept him at the top of his game.
Before delving into his strategies for handling criticism, Ayew reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Black Stars. His dedication to the national team has been a cornerstone of his career, and he remains a pivotal figure in Ghanaian football.
