Ghanaian music sensation Fancy Gadam has finally broken his silence on his absence at Sista Afia’s much-anticipated concert at the Tamale Sports Stadium. The show, which took place on May 14, 2022, witnessed a lower-than-expected turnout after Fancy Gadam withdrew from the star-studded lineup.

In an exclusive interview with Majority Radio in Tamale, Fancy Gadam offered insights into the behind-the-scenes drama that led to his unexpected no-show. The revelation sheds light on a series of missteps and miscommunications that unfolded just a week before the scheduled event.

The ‘Total Cheat’ hitmaker clarified that the agreement with Sista Afia was last-minute, with negotiations initiated by a third party. “Sista Afia didn’t approach us. Someone called and said he wanted to do a show with me and her. We charged GH¢100,000. Then she called herself, wanting me to help her, so I took GH¢50,000 per artiste-to-artiste agreement, meaning half of the initial fee,” Fancy Gadam explained.

Beyond the financial aspect, Fancy Gadam pointed out a crucial concern: the timing of the event. Citing the need for ample promotion and the approaching Ramadan period, he suggested postponing the show for its success. “We needed time to promote the show. Timing was the main issue, and it was Ramadan. We are all Muslims and fasting, so they will not want to attend,” he emphasized.

Despite the upfront payment a week before the event, Fancy Gadam made the bold decision to skip the concert, prioritizing the reputation of his brand. “I didn’t want to dent my reputation. The timing was the main thing,” he stressed, underscoring the strategic importance of maintaining a positive image.

Sista Afia, however, has expressed her disappointment, sharing in interviews that Fancy Gadam failed to extend an apology or provide an explanation for his absence. The incident, labeled as embarrassing by Sista Afia, has ignited a public debate on the importance of effective communication and strategic planning in the entertainment industry.

As the dust settles on this unexpected twist, the Ghanaian music scene is left with lingering questions about collaboration dynamics and the delicate dance of timing in organizing high-profile events.
