Ghanaian writer Ama Amewugah is about to release her debut book, Fauzia, a captivating story that sheds awareness on the tragic realities of child marriage and child abuse. This book, scheduled for release on October 5th, 2024, at Faith Wings Chapel in Dansoman this book promises to spark conversation and drive change in our society.
In a time when child marriage and abuse remain painful realities for countless young girls, Fauzia tackles these topics head-on, weaving a compelling narrative that calls for action. Ama Amewugah,
also known as Begieta Heartwill Amewugah
who started writing the book in 2019, was inspired by the alarming rise in child marriages between 2018 and 2019. Her book seeks to raise awareness and make a difference, even though she acknowledges that stopping child marriage entirely may be a difficult feat.
“Child marriage is a complex issue, but if we can help reduce it, that’s a step in the right direction,” Ama passionately states. “Our girls are our future, and we must protect them. My heart breaks when I hear stories of young girls being abused or forced into situations against their will.”
For Ama Amewugah,Fauzia isn’t just a story—it’s a mission to shed light on the lives of vulnerable girls who have no voice. The book details the tragic consequences of marrying off young girls to men old enough to be their fathers or even grandfathers, leaving them with shattered futures. It’s also a call to action for society to stand up for the girl child.
The launch of Fauzia will take place at Faith Wings Chapel, Kofi ni Ama, Adipah Street, Dansoman, at 2:30 PM. Special guest speaker Mary A.S. Dickson will share her thoughts on the importance of addressing these critical issues.
