The highly anticipated second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit (ACS) begins today at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, drawing the spotlight on Africa’s growing cinematic influence. Organized by the National Film Authority (NFA) of Ghana, the summit will run from October 7 to October 10 under the thought-provoking theme, “Is Cinema Relevant in African Communities?”
This year’s summit promises to be a star-studded affair, headlined by none other than legendary British actor and Chairman of IE7 & The Akuna Group, Idris Elba.
Adding even more prestige to the event, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, will be the Guest of Honour during tomorrow’s session on October 8.
Representatives from various African nations, including Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Angola, will attend the conference , alongside executives from the African diaspora. Major investment bodies like Afreximbank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are also present, signaling a focus on driving financial growth in Africa’s cinema industry.
At the launch of the summit in June, NFA CEO Juliet Asante emphasized Africa’s vast yet untapped cinematic potential. “Africa’s storytelling prowess is undeniable, but we’ve only scratched the surface. This conference is about harnessing that power, fostering collaboration, and building a sustainable, thriving film industry across the continent,” she said.
With a line-up of top-tier speakers, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, the ACS is poised to be a groundbreaking event, elevating African cinema to new heights.
