Ghanaian actor, comedian, and spoken word sensation, Jeffrey Nortey, has stunned fans by revealing that he takes church performances far more seriously than his mainstream entertainment gigs and even fasts before stepping on a gospel stage.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, the multi-talented creative explained that ministering at church events requires a higher level of dedication spiritually and professionally.
“I’ve been on church stages that had bigger crowds than some secular ones. Even at my church CYC, we fill the place,” Jeffrey said, emphasizing that the gospel audience is not just wide it’s spiritually significant.
While both church and secular performances offer payment, Jeffrey made it clear that his motivation for taking the gospel stage goes far beyond financial gain.
“Both the gospel and secular stages pay. But when it comes to the gospel, I’m not looking at the physical money. It’s about giving my quota to the ministry,” he stated.
“It’s my tithe. It’s doing something for the Kingdom. I don’t always go to God asking for something sometimes, you give.”
Perhaps the most striking part of the interview was Jeffrey’s confession about his spiritual discipline before church events. Unlike regular gigs, he goes through fasting and deep reflection before mounting a church stage.
“The preparation towards church events is different. I fast when I am doing it,” he said.
“If I’m on any entertainment show and I make a mistake, sometimes I don’t really care. But if I’m on a church platform and I quote a scripture wrong like 1 Peter 2:2 instead of 2:3 I’ve misled people. That’s serious.”
Jeffrey summed up the difference between the two stages beautifully:
“On the gospel stage, you’re doing it for the soul. On the entertainment stage, you’re doing it for the show.”
Fans of Jeffrey Nortey won’t have to wait long to see him in action. His much-anticipated one-man show, “3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey,” is set to take place on June 14, 2025, at the National Theatre.
