The Army Combat Training School (ACTS) successfully conducted its Final Field Training Exercise (FFTX) for the second batch of courses for 2024. Held in the Bundase area from September 21 to 27, the exercise offered students crucial practical experience in handling a Battle Group in both conventional warfare and special operations settings.

This intensive week-long exercise, aimed at students from various courses—Combat Team Commanders’ Course (CTCC 2-24), Young Officers’ Course (YOC 2-24), Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers’ Tactical Course (ANTC 2-24), Basic Medium Machine Gun Course (BMMGC 1-24), Basic Infantry Platoon Weapons Course (BIPWC 1-24), and Basic Mortar Course (BMC 1-24)—was a comprehensive test of their skills and resilience under high-pressure conditions.

The exercise wasn’t just about testing theoretical knowledge; it was about immersing students in real-world combat scenarios. From handling Battle Procedures and leading Hasty and Deliberate Defences to executing Raids, Ambushes, and Air-Inserted Patrols, students faced a wide array of military challenges designed to push their endurance and decision-making abilities.

These operations were conducted in physically demanding environments, where students were required to lead troops in the field, practicing critical skills such as Deliberate Attacks and Troop Administration. The incorporation of supporting arms and weapons, reconnaissance operations, and air support, including an M17 Helicopter and K8 Fighter Ground Attack aircraft, provided an authentic combat experience, ensuring students grasp the importance of interoperability between air and ground units.

The inclusion of adequate medical support highlighted the importance of health and well-being in challenging terrains, ensuring that the students were equipped to handle all aspects of combat operations.

The FFTX underscores the Army Combat Training School (ACTS)dedication to preparing future leaders for the battlefield, equipping them with the skills and experiences necessary to excel in their military careers. The knowledge gained during this exercise will play a critical role in shaping the students’ ability to contribute to the effectiveness and readiness of Ghana’s military.
