Ghana has emerged victorious in the highly anticipated Jollof ‘War’ at the 3FM Afro Connect Festival 3.0. Held on September 21, 2024, at the iconic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, this year’s competition saw Chef Francis (Culinary Expert) and Chef Fyaa (CEO of Fyaa Kitchen) representing Ghana in what was a mouthwatering battle of flavors.
A total of seven countries competed fiercely, but Ghana claimed the crown, with Senegal coming in second, Togo taking third place, and Mali securing the fourth spot. Other contenders in this Jollof showdown included Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Gabon.
Until the next edition in 2025, Ghana will bask in the glory of being the undisputed ruler of Africa’s Jollof, a title that holds significant cultural pride. Interestingly, Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone were the winners of the first and second editions, but now, all eyes are on Ghana as the supreme Jollof master.
The 3FM Afro Connect Festival, organized by 3FM 92.7 MHz to honor the birth anniversary of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, was not just about food. The festival provided a vibrant platform for African countries to showcase their rich cultures, unique traditions, and economic potential.
The event featured an exciting trade exhibition, with various stalls displaying spices, fashion, artworks, culinary delights, and other products from different African nations. Attendees were treated to an array of activities, including indigenous music and dances from Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, and other African countries. Live performances by the Ack Band and 3FM DJs kept the energy high, while live painting and pottery demonstrations added a creative touch to the celebration.
In her welcome address, Lois Kissiedu, Head of Channel at 3FM, emphasized the station’s commitment to promoting African unity. She highlighted the role of 3FM in showcasing the richness of African culture and fostering cooperation across the continent.
The festival attracted a host of dignitaries, including the Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Mrs. Rosemary Mbabazi, and the Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa. They were joined by notable figures such as the Managing Director of CFAO Ghana PLC, Adedamola Adelabu, and representatives from the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC).
Winners of the Jollof War and other competitions didn’t leave empty-handed. Flora Tissue, Frytol, Fidelity Bank, Hylife Beverages, Affinity, Tasty Tom, and Bills Micro-Credit sponsored the event, handing out prizes and souvenirs to winners and lucky participants. Ghana now holds the bragging rights as the home of the best Jollof in Africa, at least until the 2025 edition.
