Jordan Ayew to lead the Black Stars in the absence of key players, including Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
Partey, who was initially part of coach Otto Addo’s 25-man squad, has withdrawn from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to fitness concerns, joining him on the injury list are Joseph Paintsil, Ibrahim Osman, and Kingsley Schindler, leaving Ghana with a depleted squad ahead of the must-win fixtures.
Ghana’s road to AFCON 2025 has been far from smooth. The Black Stars are facing mounting pressure after a series of underwhelming performances, including a shocking 1-0 home defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and a frustrating 1-1 draw against Niger.
These results have left the Black Stars without a win in their qualifying campaign, and with two crucial games against Sudan on the horizon, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The first leg takes place on October 10, followed by the return leg on October 15. With qualification hanging in the balance, Ghana will need to secure all six points to have a realistic shot at breaking their 42-year AFCON trophy drought.
With Partey out of the equation, much of the responsibility now falls on the experienced shoulders of Jordan Ayew.
The Black Stars have a rich history in AFCON, never missing the tournament since 2004, and they are determined to maintain that streak.
