Kylian Mbappé delivered a sensational hat-trick as Real Madrid marked José Mourinho’s return to the Santiago Bernabéu with an emphatic 4–1 victory over Real Sociedad, extending their remarkable head-to-head record against La Real to seven consecutive LaLiga wins.

Mourinho, who guided Real Madrid to victory over Espanyol on the opening weekend, named an unchanged starting XI, once again unleashing the star pairing of Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. The two forwards immediately threatened to combine for the opener, with Álex Remiro producing an excellent save in the seventh minute to deny Mbappé from a tight angle after Vinícius had threaded a clever pass into his path.

The roles were reversed moments later, as Mbappé picked out Vinícius inside the area, only for Remiro to again stand tall and keep Sociedad in the contest.

As the first half progressed, Real Sociedad began to find their rhythm. Sergio Gómez came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock with a superb first-time left-footed volley that narrowly missed the far post. However, it was Real Madrid who struck first in the 40th minute.

Mbappé opened the scoring in typically spectacular fashion, taking Federico Valverde’s pass in his stride before unleashing a powerful left-footed finish beyond Remiro. It was another reminder of the Frenchman’s extraordinary ability to turn half-chances into goals.

After the interval, Mbappé had a golden opportunity to double the advantage when Arda Güler released him through on goal, but the France captain fired straight at Remiro. He would not make the same mistake twice.

Mbappé soon found the net again, combining brilliantly with Jude Bellingham in a rapid one-two that completely exposed Sociedad’s defence. The Frenchman finished clinically with his right foot to put Madrid firmly in control.

Bellingham then turned creator once more, displaying impressive strength and persistence to shrug off Luken Beitia before delivering a perfectly weighted pass for Vinícius. The Brazilian made no mistake from close range, calmly tapping home to make it 3–0.

But Mbappé was not finished.

The Madrid superstar completed his hat-trick in breathtaking fashion, producing a sumptuous lob over the advancing Remiro after receiving an equally exquisite pass from Vinícius. The finish capped a magnificent individual display and sent the Bernabéu into celebration.

Sociedad briefly thought they had avoided further punishment when Brahim Díaz found the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside. The visitors ultimately had to settle for a consolation as Real Madrid secured another commanding victory.

The result sends the 36-time Spanish champions to the summit of LaLiga and extends their winning streak in the competition to five matches, dating back to the end of last season.

For Real Sociedad, the defeat compounds a miserable start to the campaign. They remain winless in nine consecutive matches and, after losing their opening two fixtures, sit at the bottom of the table.

With Mbappé firing on all cylinders, Vinícius and Bellingham continuing to flourish alongside him, and Mourinho enjoying a triumphant return to the Bernabéu, Real Madrid have issued an emphatic early statement of intent.
