Shatta Wale has revealed that he has not personally taken any financial benefit from his ride-hailing platform, Shaxi, since its launch. Instead, the award-winning musician says every pesewa generated from the service is being reinvested to grow the company and create opportunities for young Ghanaians.
Speaking in an interview on the popular current affairs show Ekosiisen on Asempa FM on Wednesday, March 11, the artiste opened up about the vision behind the platform and called on the government to support it as a national project.
Launched as a digital ride-hailing service, Shaxi connects passengers with drivers through a mobile application and was designed primarily to create employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
According to Shatta Wale, the technical operations of the platform are managed by a member of his team based in the United States, who remotely oversees the system to ensure smooth operations.
“The one who handles Shaxi is in the US, so he controls it from there,” he explained.
Despite the platform’s operations and its GH¢20 subscription system, the musician insists he has never withdrawn any money for personal use.
“Since I started Shaxi, I have never taken even one cedi out of the 20-cedi subscription,” he revealed.
He emphasized that all revenue generated by the platform remains within the company’s accounts to support expansion and long-term sustainability.
For Shatta Wale, transparency is key. He wants the financial growth of the platform to be visible over time so the public can clearly see how the business evolves.
“All the money is in our account because I want people to see the reflection of it. I don’t want anybody to think that I have just got money from somewhere,” he said.
Beyond running a successful business, the dancehall star says his broader ambition is to build a platform that contributes meaningfully to Ghana’s digital economy.
He even hopes to one day present the company’s financial performance to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and demonstrate how the GH¢20 subscription model could generate significant revenue over time.
“I want to sit with the President and show him that from year one to five years, this 20 cedis subscription is how much we have made,” he said.

Addressing ongoing public conversations about taxes involving celebrities and their businesses, Shatta Wale stated that he is open to working with the Ghana Revenue Authority to clarify the financial structure of Shaxi if needed.
“When people were talking about my tax and stuff, I had every right to sit with the Ghana Revenue Authority and show them the money they want from Shaxi,” he noted.
Shatta Wale believes that with the right institutional backing, Shaxi could become a proud symbol of Ghanaian innovation and entrepreneurship a homegrown alternative to international ride-hailing services operating in the country.
He is therefore appealing to the government to support the platform and help scale it into a nationally recognised brand that visitors to Ghana would use and associate with the country’s technological progress.
“I am pleading with the government that they should come to my aid and take Shaxi as a national project,” he said.
