Highlife musician Akwasi Opoku, also known as Kwaisey Pee, has stated that the majority of newer musicians dislike him. He thinks this is because he tells the harsh truth when advising the younger generation. He mentioned this during an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show, when he was asked to criticize upcoming performers. He noticed that some incorrectly associate his choice of words with hostility.
“Anytime I come out to voice out something, they feel like I’m hating on somebody or I don’t like the young ones. They say so many things,” he said.
When asked if this has garnered him hatred from the younger musicians since he speaks his thoughts, Kwaisey Pee said yes. He described how some of the younger artists declined his collaboration request. Despite this, he stated that he is unconcerned about it since he believes people do not want to hear the truth.
“A year or two years ago, I wanted to do a collabo with a couple of them and they feel like I’m always speaking against them so why do they do collabo with me? And I’ve realized it’s something that’s within us.
We Ghanaians do not want to be lectured about what we do.” He has urged new musicians to heed to the advice of veteran musicians in order to advance their careers. To avoid more hostility, he has resolved not to comment about any artist in 2025.
