Black Queens are set for a decisive showdown against Tanzania on Monday, July 14, in a must-win Group C fixture at the 2025 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The match, scheduled for 19:00 GMT at the Berkane Municipal Stadium, comes on the heels of a challenging start to the tournament for the Ghanaians.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in their opener and settling for a 1-1 draw against Mali, the Black Queens are under pressure to secure all three points to keep their hopes of advancing alive.

Head coach Kim Björkegren admitted the mood in camp was mixed following the draw with Mali but remains confident in his team’s ability to turn things around.

“We worked hard for three points, so we were disappointed with just one. But getting at least one point was important, and now everything is in our own hands,” Björkegren said.

Despite the early setbacks, Ghana has shown attacking intent, registering 13 shots against South Africa and 18 against Mali. The issue, however, has been converting those chances into goals, something Björkegren is determined to fix.

“We know we can score more, and we will,” he emphasized. “Players like Adubia and Alice Kusi have the quality to step up and make the difference.”

With qualification on the line, Björkegren remains unwavering in his belief in the squad.

“We are in a great position,” he said. “I still believe in the players. I’m sure we’re going to win this game and move on from there.”

The Black Queens will be aiming not just for victory, but for a performance that reaffirms their credentials as WAFCON contenders. All eyes will be on Berkane Monday evening as Ghana fights to keep their tournament hopes alive.
