The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has firmly dismissed media reports claiming that the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, “called off the bluff” of the Black Queens during a recent meeting and challenged them to boycott the return leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt.
In an official statement, the GFA described such reports as false, misleading, and unfortunate, emphasizing that they do not reflect the true nature of the discussions that took place.
According to the Association, a meeting was indeed held involving the Minister of Sports and Recreation, the GFA President, and the leadership of the Black Queens to deliberate on outstanding financial issues and the team’s preparations ahead of the second leg fixture. The meeting followed the Queens’ commanding 3–0 first-leg victory over Egypt, which placed them in a strong position to advance in the qualification campaign.

The GFA clarified that during the meeting, Hon. Kofi Adams appealed to the players to remain focused and to honour the return-leg fixture. The Minister reportedly assured the team that the government was already taking immediate steps to resolve any financial challenges and that their concerns were being given the highest priority.
“At no point did the Minister ‘call off the bluff’ of the players or instruct them to boycott the upcoming match,” the statement read. “Such reports are entirely inaccurate and do not reflect the spirit or content of the discussions that took place.”

The Football Association further reiterated its close and harmonious working relationship with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, noting that both parties are united in their efforts to address player welfare and ensure that the Black Queens receive the necessary support to perform at their best.
“The GFA continues to work collaboratively with the Ministry to address all outstanding matters. Our shared goal is to provide a conducive environment for the team to excel and make Ghana proud,” the statement continued.
In conclusion, the Association urged the media and the general public to disregard the misleading reports and to rely solely on official communications from the GFA and the Ministry regarding matters of national football importance.
As the Black Queens gear up for the decisive return leg against Egypt at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, the GFA called on all Ghanaians to rally behind the team in full support.
“The unwavering backing of Ghanaians will serve as a strong motivation for the players as they seek to complete their qualification campaign in style and bring glory to the nation,” the statement concluded.
