Coachella sues Ghanaian Afrochella

Afrochella in Ghana is being sued by organizers Goldenvoice and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for alleged trademark violation.

acquired by Pitchfork on Wednesday, October 5. 

The federal court in California received the complaint filing.

A similar complaint for contributory trademark infringement was brought last year against Live Nation Entertainment by Coachella Music Festival, LLC and Goldenvoice, LLC. 

The complaint centered on Coachella Day One 22, an event planned and advertised by the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. 

Coachella and Goldenvoice filed a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment for allegedly violating Coachella’s trademarks by selling tickets to the concert. 

This year’s litigation was resolved sooner.

Afrochella 2022 will take place in Accra, Ghana on December 28 and 29, at the El Wak Stadium.

Burna Boy, Stonebwoy, Fireboy DML, , and more performers will perform in the event’s headlining performance this year.

Coachella, Goldenvoice, and Afrochella representatives as well as attorneys have been contacted by Pitchfork.
