Ghana’s U20 male national team, the Black Satellites, clinched a resounding 3-1 victory over The Gambia on Tuesday night at the Accra Sports Stadium during the ongoing 2023 African Games.

This stunning victory represents a dramatic reversal for the Black Satellites after their initial goalless draw against Congo raised concerns.

The Black Satellites wasted no time asserting their dominance as they found the back of the net in both halves, securing a well-deserved win over their West African counterparts. This second Group A victory places Ghana at the top of their group with four points from two games, positioning them strongly for a potential spot in the tournament’s semifinals.

Ghana’s opening goal came just 12 minutes into the game when Musibau Aziz delivered a striking performance, sending the home crowd into jubilation. The Black Satellites carried this momentum into the second half, with Dreams FC youngster Abdul Aziz Issah extending the lead to 2-0 merely four minutes after the break.

Despite a missed penalty opportunity by Musibau Aziz in the 75th minute, The Gambia managed to pull one back through Ebrimah Ceesay in the 83rd minute, injecting suspense back into the match. However, the Black Satellites remained composed, and Jerry Afriyie sealed the deal with a stoppage-time goal, securing a convincing 3-1 win for Ghana.

With this commanding performance, Ghana’s U20 team now sets its sights on the upcoming clash against Benin in their final group game on Saturday. The Black Satellites aim to maintain their winning streak and solidify their standing as a formidable force in the 2023 African Games.
