American rapper Meek Mill has once again captured headlines with his recent declaration of interest in obtaining Ghanaian citizenship. The news comes after his memorable visit to Ghana in December 2022, where he electrified the Afro Nation music festival with a top-class performance.

During his stay in Ghana, Meek Mill’s visit to the Jubilee House raised eyebrows, particularly when he filmed portions of a music video at the seat of government. Despite facing public backlash, the rapper later extended an apology to Ghanaians for his actions, emphasizing his enduring affection for the country.

Fast forward to March 4, 2024, and Meek Mill took to Twitter to announce his decision to settle in Ghana, citing what he perceives as America’s oppression hindering the growth of black individuals. In his tweet, he boldly expressed, “I want to get citizenship in Ghana!! America was made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders.”

However, just three days later, the Grammy-nominated artist clarified his stance, assuring fans that he would not abandon his American citizenship. Instead, he is eyeing dual citizenship, stating, “I need dual citizenship in Ghana. I think I want to go back and forth.”

Meek Mill’s revelation has sparked discussions on the significance of dual citizenship, particularly in the context of the rapper’s concerns about systemic issues faced by black individuals in the United States. The move suggests a deeper connection and commitment to Ghana while navigating the challenges he perceives in his home country.
